Chapter 6

Shou Yao Gang Rou

Huang Di asked Shao Shi: I know people have different conditions such as body hard or soft, strong or weak, short or long, yin energy or yang energy. I want to know their different treatment ways.

Shao Shi answered: human body yin and yang conditions are not absolutely, yin condition also has yin and yang advance inside yin, yang condition also has yang and yin advance inside yang, check detail yin and yang conditions on different illness, there are different ways to needling for treatment. Inside body there are 5 Zang and 6 Fu, exterior body there are muscle tendons and skin. So 5 Zang and 6 Fu are yin, muscle tendons and skin are yang. And the yin of 5 Zang are yin of yin, the yin of 6 Fu are yin of yang, the yang of muscle tendons are yang of yin, the yang of skin are yang of yang. For yin of yin 5 Zang illness should needling the yin meridians ying spring points and shu stream points; for yin of yang 6 Fu illness should needling the yang meridians He sea points; for yang of yin tendons or bones illness, should needling the yin meridians Jing river points; for yang of yang skin illness should needling the shallow luo meridians area. For different illness, illness at yang called “wind”; illness at yin called”arthralgia”; if yin and yang both illness called”wind arthralgia”. Some illness has syndromes but without pain, this belong to yang illness; some illness only pain without syndromes, this belong to yin illness. Yang illness hurt in yang so need treat yang part of body, should not treat yin part of body. Yin illness hurt in yin so need treat yin part of body, should not treat yang part of body. If yin and yang both sick, patient has syndromes with pain, and the patient emotion bad too, means yin sick more serious than yang sick, yin and yang both hurt, will difficult to treatment, and the patient will dead.

Huang Di asked Bo Gao: What is the conditions between human body internal Qi sick with external shape sick?

Bo Gao answered: wind cold sick Qi attack body and hurt body external shape; the anxiety, scare or angry etc. seven emotions stimulate and hurt body internal Qi. The emotion disturb 5 Zang Qi functions sick. And cold Qi hurt body surface sick, wind Qi hurt body tendons meridians sick. These are internal reason and external reason cause body Qi sick relationship.

Huang Di said: how to treatment?

Bo Gao answered: if sick 9 days, need acupuncture 3 times will be good, if sick 1 month, need acupuncture 10 times for cure. The time of illness will make the acupuncture treatment times more or less. If long time illness, the sick Qi will be difficult to treatment, need check the sick location’s blood meridians condition, if there is blood stasis, should needling to sedate the blood stasis clean out of body.

Huang Di said: the external reason and internal reason cause illness, some illness easy for treatment, some illness difficult for treatment, how to figure it out?

Bo Gao answered: external reason cause body sick, if only on surface without hurt the internal organs, the acupuncture treatment times will reduce to half times; if the internal organs already get sick and develop to surface of body, the acupuncture treatment times will increase to more and more times. This is because human body internal and external relate each other, the reasons are different, so the treatment ways will be easy or difficult.

Huang Di asked Bo Gao: human body’s shape has strong or weak condition; Qi has full or deficiency condition; bone has big or small condition; muscle has hard or soft condition; skin has thick or thin condition, are those different conditions relate to human being’s life span?

Bo Gao said: the body’s shape harmony with body’s Qi will long life; the body’s shape disharmony with body’s Qi will short life. Skin harmony with muscle will long life; skin disharmony with muscle will short life. Qi and Blood with meridians are the root of human being’s lift span, if the body shape strong like tree’s branches and leaves, and Qi, blood with meridians stranger than the body shape, the person will long life, if the Qi, blood with meridian weaker than the body shape, the person will short life.

Huang Di said: what is the body shape’s strong or weak condition? and what is the relationship of body shape’s condition with the life span?

Bo Gao said: if body shape strong, skin gentle, meridians’ Qi move gentle sooth speed, this kind of person long life, if body body shape strong, but skin too tight and stiff, meridians’ Qi move too fast speed, this kind of person short life. If body shape strong, pulse strong and big, internal and external condition are the same both are strong, this is good condition for long life; if the body shape strong, but pulse weak without power, internal deficiency weak, only external looks strong, meridian Qi deficiency, this is short life and dangerous condition. If the person shape looks strong but cheekbone small and low, means body’ bone weak, also means short life condition. If body’s shape strong and muscle strong hard, muscle lines clear, this is long life condition; if body’s shape looks strong but muscle soft weak without lines, this is short life condition. These conditions all caused by human being preheaven different conditions, so body’s strong or weak are different, the life span will be long or short different, as a doctor must understand the body shape with Qi blood conditions theory, and then can make clinical life or death diagnosis predict.

Huang Di said: I heard the long or short of life span is very difficult to predict.

Bo Gao said: the face bones are weak, but face muscles are fat, this is bones weak can not reach muscles, the person can not live more than 30 years old will dead, if the person has other illness, the person will dead before 20 years old.

Huang Di said: how decide the life span with body shape and meridian Qi relationship?

Bo Gao said: human being’s life span mainly based on Qi’s level, Qi lever high full, the Shen will enough too. If normal people Qi full level, the Shen will full of energy and stronger than body shape, this person will long life; but if the person has illness, body shape weak and muscle thin, even the Qi is not deficiency, the person also can be dead. Also if some people shape and muscle are not weak, but the Yuan Qi is deficiency, Qi deficiency the Shen will weak, life will in dangerous condition, will be short life.

Huang Di said: I heard there three ways to needling, what is the three ways needling?

Bo Gao said: first called needling ying level, second called needling wei level, third called needling the cold arthralgia level.

Huang Di said: how to needling the three kind of ways?

Bo Gao said: needling ying level should let blood out, because ying level can born blood; needling the wei level should let the Qi out, because wei Qi is yang energy move in the skin and muscle spaces; needling the cold arthralgia level should warm up the needle and retaining needle to warm the internal organs.

Huang Di said: what is the conditions of ying, wei, and cold arthralgia?

Bo Gao said: ying level control blood is yin energy, if sick at yin level, the yang energy will stronger than yin energy, the the patient will alternating chills and fever, if yin deficiency, the Qi will run out, so the patient will Qi deficiency too; if sick at ying blood level, the blood go up and down upset ways. Wei level control Qi is yang energy, if sick at wei level, the patient will distending pain of Qi, the Qi is unshaped, come and go uncertain time, and the patient feel depression uncomfortable with abdomen borborygmus and distending syndromes. This is because the wind cold energy attack the intestine and stomach. Cold arthralgia is the sick Qi stay at the meridians without move away, so the patient feel pain and numbness.

Huang Di said: how to warm up needling the cold arthralgia?

Bo Gao said: it should based on the different of patients conditions, for normal people use moxa needling, for royal people use herbal patches.

Huang Di asked: how to use herbal patches?

Bo Gao said: use wine 20 litre, Znthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. or Z.schini-folium Sieb. et zucc. 1 litre, dry Zingiber officinale Rosc. 500g, Cinnarmomum cassia Pres1. 500g. Use these herbs chew to small pieces put into the wine, also use cotton 500g and thin white cloth 40 feet put into the wine together, use mud seal the container tight, don’t let the Qi out of container, put the container cook inside the dry horse’s excrement keep warm for 5 days and 5 nights, and then take out the cotton and cloth, dry them and put them inside the wine again to sink dry all the wine liquid in one day and one night each time, and dry the cotton and cloth under the sun, make the cloth to small bags, put the cotton and herbal pieces into the bags, the bag long 6 or 7 feet, total 6 or 7 bags, and then use fresh Morus alba L. fire to charcoal to cook the bags, cook the bag hot and put the bag on the needling location, let the heat energy reach the sick location, also can use 6 or 7 bags alternative to warm the sick location area, if the bag cooler, then change another hot bag on the location, total warm up the area 30 times for one term, till the patient sweat out, if the sweat come out, then use the bag wipe the sweat total 30 times, and dry out the sweat liquid, at last, let the patient take a walk in a secret room, should not get wind, each time needling must use this warm up way, the cold arthralgia will be cured, this is warm up meridian and dispersal cold energy get warm up ways.

壽 夭 剛 柔 第 六

    黃 帝 問 於 少 師 曰 : 余 聞 人 之 生 也 , 有 剛 有 柔 , 有 弱有 強 , 有 短 有 長 , 有 陰 有 陽 , 願 聞 其 方 。

    少 師 答 曰 : 陰 中 有 陰 , 陽 中 有 陽 , 審 知 陰 陽 , 刺之 有 方 。 得 病 所 始 , 刺 之 有 理 。 謹 度 病 端 , 與 時 相 應 。內 合 於 五 臟 六 腑 , 外 合 於 筋 骨 皮 膚 。 是 故 內 有 陰 陽 , 外亦 有 陰 陽 。 在 內 者 , 五 臟 為 陰 , 六 腑 為 陽 , 在 外 者 , 筋骨 為 陰 , 皮 膚 為 陽 。 故 曰 , 病 在 陰 之 陰 者 , 刺 陰 之 滎 俞, 病 在 陽 之 陽 者 , 刺 陽 之 合 , 病 在 陽 之 陰 者 , 刺 陰 之 經, 病 在 陰 之 陽 者 , 刺 絡 脈 。 故 曰 , 病 在 陽 者 名 曰 風 , 病在 陰 者 名 曰 痺 , 陰 陽 俱 病 名 曰 風 痺 。 病 有 形 而 不 痛 者 ,陽 之 類 也 ; 無 形 而 痛 者 , 陰 之 類 也 。 無 形 而 痛 者 , 其 陽完 而 陰 傷 之 也 。 急 治 其 陰 , 無 攻 其 陽 。 有 形 而 不 痛 者 ,其 陰 完 而 陽 傷 之 也 。 急 治 其 陽 , 無 攻 其 陰 。 陰 陽 俱 動 ,乍 有 形 , 乍 無 形 , 加 以 煩 心 , 命 曰 陰 勝 其 陽 。 此 謂 不 表不 裏 , 其 形 不 久 。

    黃 帝 問 於 伯 高 曰 : 余 聞 形 氣 之 病 先 後 , 外 內 之 應奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 風 寒 傷 形 , 憂 恐 忿 怒 傷 氣 ; 氣 傷 臟 ,乃 病 臟 , 寒 傷 形 , 乃 應 形 ; 風 傷 筋 脈 , 筋 脈 乃 應 。 此 形氣 外 內 之 相 應 也 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 刺 之 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 病 九 日 者 , 三 刺而 已 ; 病 一 月 者 , 十 刺 而 已 ; 多 少 遠 近 , 以 此 衰 之 。 久痺 不 去 身 者 , 視 其 血 絡 , 盡 出 其 血 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 外 內 之 病 , 難 易 之 治 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 :形 先 病 而 未 入 臟 者 , 刺 之 半 其 日 。 臟 先 病 而 形 乃 應 者 ,刺 之 倍 其 日 。 此 月 內 難 易 之 應 也 。

    黃 帝 問 於 伯 高 曰 : 余 聞 形 有 緩 急 , 氣 有 盛 衰 , 骨有 大 小 , 肉 有 堅 脆 , 皮 有 厚 薄 , 其 以 立 壽 夭 奈 何 ? 伯 高答 曰 : 形 與 氣 相 任 則 壽 , 不 相 任 則 夭 。 皮 與 肉 相 果 則 壽, 不 相 果 則 夭 , 血 氣 經 絡 勝 形 則 壽 , 不 勝 形 則 夭 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 何 謂 形 之 緩 急 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 形 充 而 皮 膚緩 者 則 壽 , 形 充 而 皮 膚 急 者 則 夭 , 形 充 而 脈 堅 大 者 順 也, 形 充 而 脈 小 以 弱 者 氣 衰 , 衰 則 危 矣 。 若 形 充 而 顴 不 起者 骨 小 , 骨 小 則 夭 矣 。 形 充 而 大 肉 胭 堅 而 有 分 者 肉 堅 ,肉 堅 則 壽 矣 ; 形 充 而 大 肉 無 分 理 不 堅 者 肉 脆 , 肉 脆 則 夭矣 。 此 天 之 生 命 , 所 以 立 形 定 氣 而 視 壽 夭 者 , 必 明 乎 此立 形 定 氣 , 而 後 以 臨 病 人 , 決 生 死 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 余 聞 壽 夭 , 無 以 度 之 。 伯 高 答 曰 : 牆 基卑 , 高 不 及 其 地 者 , 不 滿 三 十 而 死 。 其 有 因 加 疾 者 , 不及 二 十 而 死 也 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 形 氣 之 相 勝 , 以 立 壽 夭 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰: 平 人 而 氣 勝 形 者 壽 ; 病 而 形 肉 脫 , 氣 勝 形 者 死 , 形 勝氣 者 危 矣 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 余 聞 刺 有 三 變 , 何 謂 三 變 ? 伯 高 答 曰 :有 刺 營 者 , 有 刺 衛 者 , 有 刺 寒 痺 之 留 經 者 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 刺 三 變 者 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 刺 營 者 出 血, 刺 衛 者 出 氣 , 刺 寒 痺 者 內 熱 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 營 衛 寒 痺 之 為 病 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 營 之生 病 也 , 寒 熱 少 氣 , 血 上 下 行 。 衛 之 生 病 也 , 氣 痛 時 來時 去 , 怫 愾 賁 響 , 風 寒 客 於 腸 胃 之 中 。 寒 痺 之 為 病 也 ,留 而 不 去 , 時 痛 而 皮 不 仁 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 刺 寒 痺 內 熱 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 刺 布 衣 者, 以 火 焠 之 ; 刺 大 人 者 , 以 藥 熨 之 。

    黃 帝 曰 : 藥 熨 奈 何 ? 伯 高 答 曰 : 用 淳 酒 二 十 斤 ,蜀 椒 一 斤 , 干 姜 一 斤 , 桂 心 一 斤 , 凡 四 種 , 皆 嚼 咀 , 漬酒 中 , 用 綿 絮 一 斤 , 細 白 布 四 丈 , 並 內 酒 中 , 置 酒 馬 矢熅 中 , 封 涂 封 , 勿 使 泄 。 五 日 五 夜 , 出 綿 絮 曝 乾 之 , 干復 潰 , 以 盡 其 汁 。 每 漬 必 晬 其 日 , 乃 出 乾 。 乾 , 並 用 滓與 綿 絮 , 復 布 為 復 巾 , 長 六 七 尺 , 為 六 七 巾 , 則 用 之 生桑 炭 炙 巾 , 以 熨 寒 痺 所 刺 之 處 , 令 熱 入 至 於 病 所 , 寒 復炙 巾 以 熨 之 , 三 十 遍 而 止 。 汗 出 以 巾 拭 身 , 亦 三 十 遍 而止 。 起 步 內 中 , 無 見 風 。 每 刺 必 熨 , 如 此 病 已 矣 。
