Qi gong in China has several thousand years history, in Yao times of China, people already know to dance can health body, such as recorded: long time ago, since the Tao and Tang families times, the sky is more raining days, and the yin Qi and dampness will stasis inside people’s body, the body liquid channel been blocked, not smoothly, so people body Qi depression and stagnation happened, the muscle and tendons be shrink not stretch, hence, people make dancing to lead body Qi move to relieve those stagnation.” And laterly, this kind of dance became to Qi Gong Dao Yin techniques. And people also found the body movement, breath and sound can adjust body energy functions, such as: stretch can relieve body heat, shrink can make body against cold energy attack, “Ha”sound can release body heat and depression energy, “Hei”sound can descent body energy and help body send out power, “Xu”sound can relieve pain etc..

(6th century B.C.)recorded the methods of “blowing(chui)”and “puffing(xu)”. futher develop it to “blowing and puffing, exhaling and inhaling, getting rid of the stale and take in the fresh, contracting like the bear and stretching like bird, all help prolong life.

“Jade Pendant Inscription on Qigong”, a historical relic of the early Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods (770 B.C.-221 B.C.), recorded the training method and theory of Qigong. The inscription was engraved on a 12 jade cylinders, containing altogether forty-five Chinese characters: “to promote and active Qi, the Qi go deep level of body then be stored, stored Qi will be extension, extension Qi will go down, the Qi go down then will be steady, steady Qi will be formed, formed Qi will be germination, Qi germination will grow up, grow up Qi will be steam out, steam out Qi to go up to sky, the Qi go up will rush to sky, the Qi go down will hit inside the earth. Human body’s Qi movement follow this law will health and alive, against this law will sick and death.” This is talking about the Qi’s universe circuit and Qi gong health principle.

In west Han Dynasty the Chang Sha Ma Wang Dui Han Tomb No.3 Hunan province, there was a silk book of and silk painting about (3rd centry B.C.), it showed the early Chinese Dao Yin Qi Gong.

In the Han Dynasty, the earliest general medical collection in China – expounded Qigong’s principles, training methods and the effects of Qigong exercise. For instance, “Remain quiet mind and body relax, then the real Qi will follow your mind, mind focus inside(Dantian), how can disease come on”; “Exhale and inhale essence Qi, concentrate the spirit to keep focus only on pure mind thought, the whole body’s muscles unite as one”; “those who suffer from a lingering kidney disease can face the south from 3:00am to 5:00am, clear the mind of all stray thoughts, hold breath without respiration read the number one to seven, exhale and swallow the Qi by craning the neck to send the Qi down smoothly, just like swallow a very hard object. Repeat this for seven times, use tongue to build saliva and swallow the saliva N times.” Etc..

The Han dynasty the famous TCM doctor Zhang Zhong Jing’s book recorded: If the patient’s limbs feel heavy and sluggish, the patient should do DaoYin and TuNa, Acupuncture and Moxibustion with herbal patch or Tuina, don’t allow the nine orifices be obstructed.

Another famous TCM doctor HuaTuo created the Five animals Dao Yin Qi Gong such as tiger , deer, bear, monkey, and bird etc., for the propose of sooth Qi and blood flow, prevent the disease happen.

At Jin Dynasty the famous TCM doctor GeHong’s book recorded: “flexing or stretching, bending or up-facing, walking or lying, leaning or standing, pacing or strolling, chanting or breathing are all methods of Daoyin”; He believed that the function of Qi gong is “to help cure disease before it happen serious, sooth the blocked Qi channels, active the Qi and make all the channels opened and flow Qi smoothly”. He also said: “lead Qi to move, for internal can nourish body, for external can prevent the sick Qi attack body”.

Ming Dynasty, the famous TCM doctor Li Shi Zhen wrote the book recorded: “The inner scene and channels can be shown very clearly only by those who can see(x ray eyes) inside body’s condition during Qi Gong practice.” and he also pointed out in his book that those who learn acupuncture and moxibustion should practice Qi gong sitting meditation first, thus “ they can feel the Qi and Blood flow inside the meridians, and the different Enerqi function opening and closing, the practitioner will have a reliable foundation for future acupuncture and moxibustion treatments.”

In 1955, China founded a Qi Gong sanatorium in the city of Tang Shan, HeBei province, to observe the clinical effects of the Qi Gong therapy. In 1956, the Chinese Qi Gong training courses began to set up in Tang Shan and Beidaihe, Hebei province, fostered a large number of Qi Gong specialists for many places of the world. In July, 1957, Shanghai Municipal Qigong Sanatorium was founded. In Octobor, 1959, the Ministry of Public health of the people’s republic of China held the first National Qi Gong Experience communication meeting in Beidaihe, Hebei province. There were representatives of 64 departments from 17 provinces of the country attended the meeting. Since 1978 to now, the scientists from Beijing and Shanghai have constantly use modern scientific instruments to research Qi Gong. It has be proved the Qi Gong has a substantial foundation and is scientific. The age old Chinese Qi Gong will make contributions to the health and longevity for people of the world.
